ΑΛΗΘΕΙΑ ("the App") is a free home-screen replacement for Android, published by Gregor Nelson, an individual developer in the United Kingdom ("the Developer"). There is no company behind it. This policy says what the App and this website do and do not do with data, and is meant to be checked against the App itself.
1. Summary
- The App collects no personal data and sends nothing to the Developer or anyone else.
- It has no ads, analytics, crash reporting, accounts or third-party SDKs.
- It does not request the
INTERNETpermission, so it has no network access of its own. - Your settings stay on your device. The only ways information can leave it are Android's own device backup (section 4) and actions you start yourself (section 5).
2. Data Collected
None through the App. The Developer runs no servers for it and receives no data from it. The App cannot transmit data because it has no network access. You can confirm this in the App's manifest or in Android's app permissions screen.
3. Data Stored on Your Device
The App stores the following in its private storage on your device. Other apps cannot read it.
- Your settings — theme, font, icon pack and icon style, widget and gesture choices, and the like.
- Your customisations — the apps you have renamed, hidden, placed in folders or chosen as favourites, kept as the package names of those apps.
This is not sent to the Developer. To delete it, clear the App's storage in Android Settings, use the reset option inside the App, or uninstall the App.
4. Android Device Backup
The App allows Android's standard backup. If you have Google backup turned on, Android may copy the App's settings and customisations (section 3) to your own Google account and restore them on a new device. That is done by Android and Google under your account and Google's privacy policy. The Developer does not receive or have access to it. You can turn this off in your device's backup settings.
5. Things That Leave the App Only When You Ask
- Support email. “Email support” opens your own mail app with a draft addressed to the Developer. The draft includes a short diagnostics block: App version, Android version and security patch, device make and model, screen size and density, font scale, language, whether the App is your default launcher, whether usage access is on, your chosen look and font, and counts of hidden apps and folders. It contains no app names, and you can read and edit it before sending. Nothing is sent unless you press send in your mail app. If you do, the Developer receives your email address and what you wrote, uses it only to reply and to fix the problem, and deletes it when it is no longer needed.
- Web search. If you use the search field's web-search option, the text you typed is handed to your default browser or search app, which handles it under its own policy.
- Links and other apps. Opening this website from the App, launching an app, or tapping the date or time (which opens your calendar or clock app) hands off to the relevant app or browser. The Developer does not control those apps.
- Clipboard. Search can copy a calculation result to the clipboard when you tap it. The App does not read the clipboard.
6. Permissions
- QUERY_ALL_PACKAGES — lets the App list every app installed on your device so it can show and launch them. This is the core function of a launcher. The list is read on your device, held in memory, and never sent anywhere. Built-in icon packs redraw each app's own icon on the device; the result is kept in memory only.
- PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS (usage access) — optional and off by default. If you turn on usage-based sorting and grant access in Android Settings, the App reads how long each app was open over the last 30 days to order your apps. The figures are read when you ask for a sort, are not stored or sent, and you can revoke access at any time in Android Settings.
The App reads the battery level and charging state to show the header battery display. This needs no permission and is not stored. The App does not request location, contacts, microphone, camera, Bluetooth, files, SMS, call logs or notification access, and reads no calendar data.
7. Third-Party Services
The App contains no ads, analytics, crash reporters, social SDKs or cloud services. It is distributed through Google Play, which has its own data practices when you install or update the App; see Google's privacy policy. The Developer sees only the aggregate install and crash statistics Google Play provides to all developers, none of which identify you.
8. This Website
This website sets no cookies, runs no analytics and has no forms or accounts. It loads no third-party resources: its fonts are served from this site. Like most web servers, the server keeps standard access logs (IP address, time, page requested) for security and troubleshooting. The Developer does not use them to identify or track visitors, and they are rotated and deleted routinely.
9. Children
The App collects no personal data from anyone, including children. It is not directed at children and contains no social, chat or purchasing features.
10. Your Rights
Because the App holds no data about you on the Developer's side, there is nothing for the Developer to export or erase from it. For emails you have sent to the Developer, you may ask what is held, and ask for it to be corrected or deleted, by writing to the address below. If you are in the UK or EU you also have the right to complain to your data protection authority; in the UK that is the Information Commissioner's Office.
11. Changes to This Policy
If the App ever needs to handle data differently, for example by adding a permission that changes any of the above, this policy will be updated first and the date above changed. Previous versions are available on request.
